Some of the main factors for quality pallet wood
There are some important requirements for the quality of the wood that will be used to make the pallet. The moisture content of wood should not exceed 25%. Only cut wood belonging to the 1-3 class should be taken.
Also, remember that the quality and durability of future pallets will largely depend on the quality of material processing and the presence of defects on its surface. There should be no mold and mildew on the wooden substrate, and traces of insects, cracks from the end parts, and rot are not allowed.
Dimensions of pallet wood:
Depending on the purpose for which such wooden containers will be used, they can be produced in different sizes. Reusable types usually have dimensions of 800×1200 and 1000×1200 millimeters.
How to preserve the quality of pallet wood and what we have done to make the wood look even more beautiful and attractive?!
We can preserve the quality of pallet wood using 3 effective steps:
- Fine treatment of the pallet wood surface (sanding),
- By burning the surface of the pallet wood (using a burner),
- Or after processing, we can varnish the wood (with colorless varnish).

Keep in mind that when disassembling a wooden pallet, there are always traces of nails that were previously hammered in. We can fix those nail holes or leave them as decoration, which is not bad. 🙂
When it comes to placing pallets on the wall, surely you will find some information that the pallet can be glued on the wall?! But avoid this procedure, it is best to use the nail holes, and instead of nails use screws and dowels. Secure each pallet by screwing it to the wall on three sides, one on each side and one in the middle just in case. This will avoid all later problems, trust us! 🙂
Also, count on the fact that not all the pallets will fit nicely together, you can hide this by painting the wall behind in black. When you start with this procedure, setting the pallet wood is best to start screwing from the bottom up.
We are not masters, so we didn’t even varnish every board, but we believe that there are masters who would fit this perfectly. I think it’s important to note that we didn’t put up boards and plan ahead. I have seen other craftsmen place the boards perfectly and number each one before assembly. Honestly, we didn’t have the patience for something like that.
