8 Adorable (and Actually Chic) Baby Nursery Decoration Ideas

It’s no longer only a matter of picking between pink and blue when it comes to designing a lovely nursery for your baby. Neutral nursery themes are really popular these days.

This aesthetic allows you a little more design freedom than a standard nursery idea for a boy or girl, whether you want to keep your baby’s gender a surprise, don’t want to impose gender conventions, or just want a fashionable place in the home.

“Creating a ‘gender-neutral nursery’ means breaking down those stereotypical ideas that generally apply when creating boys vs. girls rooms,” says Dina Bandman of Dina Bandman Interiors.

“It appears that many more parents are asking for gender neutral in the last year or two,” says Naomi Alon, interior designer and proprietor of Little Crown Interiors in California. “It wasn’t something that many people were doing earlier in my career, but it now appears to be very popular again.” I enjoy it when clients want me to design gender-neutral rooms because it forces me to think outside the box.”.

“I design a nursery for the Mom in my universe. Corre Marie Larkin of Corre Marie Interior Design says, “She is going to be spending her hours in there nursing and rocking and reading and doing all the other lovely aspects of parenting.”

“We are also interested in the psychology of the space. We concentrate on creating a relaxing environment in which they can lay their heads and dream.”

Of all, that is just one designer’s opinion; some choose to use bright colors in their nursery. “Just because you’re going gender neutral doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice color or fun,” Alon explains.

So, how can you strike the perfect balance? That’s up to you. However, to assist you, we’ve compiled a list of neutral nursery themes and ideas to help you design a space for your baby.

Modern Serenity is the first neutral nursery theme.

This neutral, natural baby nursery was created by designer Corre Marie Larkin for her own boy — or, more accurately, for herself. “I created a space that I would like spending time in. It won’t be a nursery by the time my boy has a say and an opinion about it,” she says. She came up with an unusual yet soothing atmosphere for both parents and newborns.

Larkin explains, “I used a lot of natural materials, including the driftwood mirror.” “By layering the vintage Persianrugs, I gave even more texture.” Before I got my hands on it, the rocking chair was a standard beige number. Because I knew I’d be spending a lot of time there, I covered it in three different shibori prints to create a very memorable piece.”

Natural Baby is the second neutral nursery theme.

Larkin adds, “I used a lot of natural elements, including the driftwood mirror.” “By layering the vintage Persianrugs, I was able to add even more texture.” Before I got my hands on it, the rocking chair was just a regular beige number. Because I knew I’d be spending a lot of time there, I covered it in three different shibori prints and created a genuinely memorable artwork.”

This designer opted for a more contemporary style. Surprisingly, in terms of decor, this neutral nursery is the least neutral space in the home. “Because the rest of her home was more neutral,” Alon recalls, “[the customer] understood she wanted a lively wallpaper and a pattern that really popped.” Though it’s been a trend in home décor for a while, the mid-century modern motif offers a fresh take on a nursery. What a fantastic idea!

The architecture of the room is one of the most visually intriguing aspects of this lovely safari design. The designer made excellent use of a difficult, limited space! Even if you don’t have this wonderful woodwork, a white canopy, earthy, natural colors, and foreign decorations will help you create a lovely safari nursery theme. Just make certain that the safari animals you use are friendly…

Night Sky is the fifth neutral nursery theme.

Because babies spend the majority of their time looking up from their cribs, a ceiling painting, such as this night sky mural by Little Crown Interiors, is a good choice. The safari theme comes into play since Alon was charged with designing a room around a wall hanging her client had brought home from vacation. The night-sky ceiling, which uses recessed lighting to replicate dazzling stars, is the room’s true main point.

Woodland Wonder is the sixth neutral nursery theme.

Painting the walls gray, as shown in this forest wonderland-themed nursery, is one of the most popular neutral nursery ideas right now. Gray, according to Neelam Gurm of Neelam Interiors, is the new yellow in nurseries. Gurm, on the other hand, didn’t go with a plain wall for this mountain-themed nursery.

The room’s colorful and modern tone is set by a bold, geometric painting of snow-capped mountains, which she then complemented with beautiful woodland creatures like the moose. The dresser’s drawer pulls are actually small bunnies – how adorable!

Gurm’s top ideas for establishing a gender-neutral nursery are featured in this design: Incorporate a nature-inspired wall mural and animal-themed artwork.

Around the World is the seventh neutral nursery theme.

Sending your child across the world in their own room will instill a curiosity for the big wide world and a passion of travel in them at an early age. An ancient atlas is included in this nursery theme by Gemma Parker-McKeon, proprietor of Gemma Parker Design, as a chic and cheap way to execute large-scale wall art. With the legs of the rocking rocker like a vintage airplane and plush animals from all over the world, the motif is gently incorporated throughout.

The space also demonstrates the designer’s neutral design philosophy: “Start with a basic base and add an unexpected twist, whether it’s a bold graphic piece or a striped ceiling,” she adds. “Make it one-of-a-kind and playful in a way that the child would like.”

Seafaring Explorer is the eighth neutral nursery theme.

Another nursery proposal by Parker-M. includes a wallpaper of the nature as the room’s focal point, but this time it’s inspired by a maritime explorer. A modern tribute to the period of exploration is created by the soothing blue and white colors, as well as the nautical rope accent on the mirror.

“These clients were very well traveled and lived all over the world,” Parker-McKeon recalls, adding that the wall tapestries were a terrific design element.

While navy blue is traditionally associated with boys, the room’s white foundation makes it gender-neutral.
